PocketPaisa Privacy Policy

Summary

PocketPaisa is a personal income and expense ledger for users in India. You can use the app to manually record transactions, optionally add an approximate location to a transaction, review SMS-based transaction drafts, attach receipt photos, and export CSV files. By default, everything you create stays in local storage on your device.

An account and cloud backup are optional. If you choose to sign in with your phone number and a one-time code, and tap Backup or Sync, PocketPaisa uploads eligible ledger fields over an encrypted connection to its own gateway server so you can restore or sync them across your devices. A user who never signs in uploads no ledger data. Approximate transaction location information, raw SMS text, and receipt photos are never included in PocketPaisa cloud backup or sync. PocketPaisa also uses a measurement service to understand how people find the app. The app does not sell your personal data.

Data We Handle

By default the data below is created and stored only on your device. Account data and eligible ledger fields may leave your device in the specific cases noted: when you sign in, or when you enable Backup or Sync. If you use the optional Add location feature, Android's system geocoding service may process approximate coordinates locally or over a network to produce a readable city or area label, as described below. PocketPaisa's connections to its gateway server are encrypted in transit.

Ledger data Income and expense amount, category, merchant or payer, date and time, notes, source labels, and user-created categories. Stored on your device. Eligible ledger fields are uploaded to the PocketPaisa gateway server only if you sign in and enable Backup or Sync. The optional transaction location described below is always excluded.

Approximate transaction location Only after you choose Add location while adding or editing a transaction and grant permission, PocketPaisa accesses your approximate foreground location so you can save optional location information, such as a city or area label, with that transaction. This information is stored only in local app storage. It is excluded from PocketPaisa cloud backup and sync, CSV export, and data reporting. PocketPaisa does not request precise or background location and does not continuously track you. To obtain a readable label, Android's system Geocoder may resolve the approximate coordinates on the device or may send them over a network to the device's system geocoding provider. PocketPaisa does not send the location to its own gateway server.

SMS import data When you start SMS import and grant permission, PocketPaisa reads recent inbox messages on your device to identify bank, UPI, wallet, and card transaction messages. Matching messages are converted into pending transaction drafts for your review. SMS text never leaves your device and is never uploaded.

Receipt images If you choose to attach a receipt, the app can take a photo with your camera or pick existing images from your gallery (up to six per transaction) and save them inside app storage on your device. Receipt photos stay on your device and are not uploaded.

Account data If you choose to sign in, PocketPaisa collects your phone number and a one-time verification code to create and access your account. This is used only to identify your account and enable cloud backup and sync. If you never sign in, no account data is collected.

App and device information When the app communicates with its gateway server, it sends technical information with each request, such as the app version, the platform, a system code, and, once you are signed in, your account or session token. Transaction location and network availability status are not included in these requests.

Network availability PocketPaisa checks locally whether a network connection is available so it can handle offline states before using network-dependent features. The app does not retain or upload network availability status, and this check does not let it read the contents of your network traffic.

Install measurement PocketPaisa uses a measurement service (Adjust) to understand which channel brought you to the app. For this, the service may access a device advertising identifier. It is used only to measure installs — not to show you ads or build an advertising profile.

How We Use Data

To create, edit, search, show, and organize your personal income and expense records on your device.
To add optional approximate location information to a transaction only when you choose Add location.
To create SMS transaction drafts that you can confirm, edit, or ignore before they enter your ledger.
To let you export records as a CSV file using the system file picker, when you choose to. Transaction location is excluded from the CSV export.
To attach optional receipt photos to records you save.
To create and sign in to your optional account using your phone number and a one-time verification code.
To back up and sync eligible ledger fields to and from the PocketPaisa gateway server when you enable Backup or Sync. Transaction location is excluded.
To check network availability locally and handle offline states before a network-dependent feature is used.
To measure which channel brought you to the app.

Permissions and Device Access

Read SMS

Used only after you start SMS import and grant permission. The app reads recent financial messages on the device to create pending transaction drafts. OTP messages and verification codes are skipped by the parser, and SMS text is never sent off the device.

Camera

Used only when you choose to take a receipt photo for a transaction. Photos are saved in local app storage and are not uploaded.

Approximate location

Used only after you choose Add location while adding or editing a transaction and grant the ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION permission. PocketPaisa accesses an approximate foreground location for that action and stores the resulting transaction location only in local app storage. It is not included in PocketPaisa cloud backup or sync, CSV export, or data reporting. PocketPaisa does not request precise location, does not request background location, and does not continuously track you. Android's system Geocoder may process approximate coordinates locally or over a network through the device's system geocoding provider to return a city or area label.

Internet

PocketPaisa uses the internet permission to support the optional account (phone sign-in), optional cloud backup and sync of eligible ledger fields, install measurement, and loading in-app web pages. Your eligible ledger fields are transmitted to the PocketPaisa gateway only when you enable Backup or Sync, and those connections are encrypted in transit. Approximate transaction location, SMS text, and receipt photos are never uploaded to the PocketPaisa gateway. If you choose Add location, Android's system Geocoder may use network processing as described above.

Network state

The ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permission is an Android normal permission, so it is granted automatically at installation and does not display a runtime permission prompt. PocketPaisa uses it only to check network availability locally and handle offline states before using network-dependent features. This permission does not itself provide internet access, does not let the app read network traffic content, and is not used to retain or upload your network status.

Sharing and Third Parties

PocketPaisa does not sell your personal data. Data is shared off your device only in these cases:

PocketPaisa gateway server. If you sign in and enable Backup or Sync, your account data and eligible ledger fields are stored on the PocketPaisa gateway server so they can be restored or synced across your devices. Transaction location is excluded from every backup and sync request.
Android system geocoding provider. If you choose Add location, Android's system Geocoder may resolve approximate coordinates locally or may send them over a network to the geocoding provider configured by your device to return a readable city or area label. This processing is controlled by the Android system and its provider. PocketPaisa does not send transaction location to its own gateway server.
Adjust (install measurement). PocketPaisa uses Adjust to understand which channel brought you to the app; for this the service may access a device advertising identifier. It is used only to measure installs, not for advertising profiles.

No advertisers or analytics partners receive your ledger, SMS, receipt, or transaction location data, and raw SMS text and receipt photos are never uploaded. Your records also leave the app when you export a CSV file through the system file picker and choose where to save or send it; transaction location is excluded from that export.

Security

PocketPaisa stores data in local app storage and relies on Android's app sandbox and runtime permission prompts to protect it. When data is sent to the gateway server for the optional account or cloud backup and sync, it is encrypted in transit. You should keep your device secure and review records before exporting, backing up, or clearing them.

Retention and Deletion

Local ledger data, including any optional transaction location, stays on your device until you edit or delete the transaction, clear local transaction data from the Settings screen, uninstall the app, or clear app storage. Transaction location has no PocketPaisa cloud copy because it is excluded from backup and sync.

If you enabled cloud backup, you can remove the cloud copy of your ledger entries with the Clear cloud data action, and you can end the session on your device with Logout. To delete your account, contact us at the address in the Contact section. Deleting local data does not by itself remove any cloud copy, and clearing cloud data does not remove local data.

Your Choices

Use PocketPaisa fully on-device for local manual record keeping, without creating an account.
Skip SMS import and add transactions manually.
Skip receipt photos when saving records.
Skip Add location and save transactions without location information.
Review, edit, confirm, or ignore SMS drafts before they become ledger records.
Turn off SMS, Camera, or Approximate location permission at any time from Android Settings and keep using manual entry.
Choose whether to sign in with your phone number, and whether to enable cloud backup and sync of your ledger entries.
Export a CSV copy of your transactions through the system file picker; transaction location is excluded from the export.
Clear local transaction data, including transaction location, pending SMS drafts, and receipt images from the Settings screen.
Remove the cloud copy of your entries with Clear cloud data, end your session with Logout, or request account deletion.
Uninstall the app or clear its storage to remove all data from your device.

Children

PocketPaisa is intended for personal finance record keeping and is not directed to children. Users should use the app only if they are legally allowed to manage their own records in their location.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, legal requirements, or data handling practices change. The effective date at the top of this page shows when the Policy was last updated.
